The Way is reborn: 43,675 pilgrims in the month of August !! Pilgrims return from Europe, America and China !!

The Camino is reborn, the wishes and dreams of thousands of pilgrims are already being fulfilled !!

In August 43,675 pilgrims collected the Compostela: 22,262 women and 21,313 men. Of them 41,332 traveled the Camino on foot; 2,132 by bicycle, 53 on horseback, 41 by sailing and 17 by wheelchair.

Their nationalities were: 34.381 Spain; 2,404 Italy; 1,297 Portugal; 878 Germany: 707 France; 543 USA; 406 Poland; 203 Mexico; 191 Holland; 166 United Kingdom; 161 Czech Republic; 141 Belgium; 135 Argentina; 118 Ireland; 118 Venezuela; 109 Colombia; 104 Romania; 100 Denmark; 92 Hungary; 87 China.

The most traveled was the French Way (24,262); followed by Central Portuguese (7,736), English (3,052); Primitive (2,661): the North (2,613); Portuguese by the Coast (1830); the Vía de la Plata (713); other roads (448); Winter Road (159); Fisterra-Muxía (159).

The main starting points were in: Sarria, Tui, Ferrol, Oviedo, S.J.P.D.P., Oporto, Valença, O Cebriro, León, Ponferrada, Lugo … But some hundreds of pilgrims also left from Roncesvalles, Irún or the Valencian Community.

There were no incidents and the pilgrims who arrived in Santiago did so following the hygiene and safety regulations and respecting the restrictions. In all of Spain and, particularly, in Galicia and Compostela, the situation has improved a lot, it now being possible to spend the night in all the centers of the Camino, use the hotel services, pick up the Compostela, attend the Pilgrim’s Mass and visit the cathedral. Most of the public and private hostels are open.
