Greetings from Albergue Castrotarafe in Fontanillas de Castro, on the Vía de la Plata just north of Zamora.

It’s been a strange year of course, with just a few dozen pilgrims staying since people started walking again in July. Ramiro, now 90 years old, is still tending his sheep, walking them several miles each day across the nearly bare fields for them to find grass. Many pilgrims who have stayed here will remember him, with his welcoming smile and stories of the old days for all who stop a moment to listen as they set off in the morning.

I’m looking forward to next Spring when hopefully pilgrims can come again. Until then, stay safe and enjoy memories of past Caminos and making plans for those to come.
